The Carnegie Links at Skibo Castle - Exclusive and Special

Billionaire Andrew Carnegie commissioned Royal Dornoch’s Secretary, John Sutherland to build a private nine-hole links course in 1898 on his estate Skibo Castle.  Yet Skibo Castle and golf course, whose famous visitors included King Edward VII, Rudyard Kipling, Henry Gladstone and numerous Rockefellers, fell into disrepair slowly after Carnegie’s death in 1919.

The Skibo Estate is now an exceptional private members-only club, with its own world-class 18-hole course.   Links House architect James Maxwell was retained to design a club house of exceptional class and quality modeled after an old farm steading, whilst more recent improvements to the course have advanced The Carnegie Links into the realm of true Scotland Classic.

Links House can provide private introduction to play

Located ten minutes drive from Links House on an idyllic peninsula into the Dornoch Firth and Loch Evelix within the 7,500-acre Skibo Estate, lays a links course set seamlessly into its natural surroundings.  The views and sea air are absolutely breathtaking.  Despite being among the newest links courses in Scotland, it feels as if, like Royal Dornoch, it is timeless.  There are few uninspired holes on Carnegie Links with the 12th cited in Andrew Ross and Craig Morrison’s 2010 book 18 Greatest Scottish Golf Holes.   Many believe the final 3 holes are among the best finishing stretches in golf.

Our partnership with The Carnegie Club ensures that Links House guests who wish to play the fantastic Carnegie Links during their stay need only give us advance notice and we will provide a letter of introduction on your behalf, including your handicap and home club details where applicable.  Links House guest’s round includes a three-course lunch at the golf club house.

Three of Scotland's Absolute Finest Links within 20 minutes

Unlike most of Scotland and Ireland's golfing venues, Links House offers unique easy access, within minutes, to the Worlds Finest Golf Region. with three of Scotland's absolute finest links courses making it the perfect headquarters for a Scottish golf experience. If you wish 2 rounds of truly championship golf in a single day, no location offers finer access.

Obviously Royal Dornoch Golf Club's 1st tee is just steps away and is currently ranked #1 in Scotland by Golf Digest. Exclusively private, Carnegie Links at Skibo Castle, is ten minutes by car along the Dornoch Firth, and the course is absolutely stunning, strategic and always affords rapid play given there is never a crowd. Finally, Brora Golf Club, James Braid's (5 time Open Champion) masterpiece is just 20 minutes north along the coast. The undiscovered gem is the "best traditional links course in the word" according to Open Champion Peter Thompson. Together these adjacent links, also teamed with excellent Golspie Golf Club, allow our guests to stay in one locale through their entire trip, avoiding exhausting travel itineraries.
