Links House offers beautiful landscaped gardens and grounds next to Royal Dornoch's 1st Tee

Links House at Royal Dornoch is set amidst generous grounds with lawns – bordered with a colourful array of herbs, flowers, plants and mature trees – and inviting terraces surrounding the hotel.

French doors in the Orangery dining room open out onto a terrace replete with seating – perfect for a pre-dinner aperitif – with views over the first tee of Royal Dornoch’s Championship Course and the beach and Dornoch Firth beyond. An outdoor fireplace warms the terrace and doubles as a cigar hearth.

Between the original 19th century house and the mews guest accommodation – built to reflect the architecture of the former church manse – sits a practise putting green. Built and maintained by Royal Dornoch Golf Club’s master greenkeepers, the green often witnesses some friendly post-prandial competition. And with each hole named after a famous Highland whisky distillery it is tradition to partake of a Malt or two during your ‘round’.

Things to do in the Scottish Highlands

The Links House Mews overlooks the putting green and the main house and boasts a covered patio with rocking chairs – the perfect spot for a moment’s quiet reflection as you drink in the views of the Dornoch Firth. Dotted around the gardens and grounds are bespoke wooden benches, making it easy to find a quite space to yourself to read a book from Links House’s extensive library or sit in quiet contemplation.

Adjacent to the mews building is the Sporting Bothy. Golf clubs and equipment can be stored here overnight and  there is also a drying room should you be exposed to an occasional Highland rain shower.

The Sporting Bothy is – literally – a stone’s throw from the first tee at Royal Dornoch. As transfer times go, it is hard to beat 30 seconds! The Sporting Bothy also houses materials for drawing and painting, should you be inspired by the rich Highland landscape.
