‘Gone Fishing’

A lovely day’s fishing was experienced by our Guest Services Team , Sarah, Gwen and Fiona, at the weekend. They spent a glorious few hours in the sunshine with Roger Dowsett from Salmon Quest,on the River Allness in the Novar Estate . Roger is a very experienced Ghillie and instructor and manages the fishing for the estate but also runs fishing excursions for many of our guests which the team organise. The girls were taught how to cast the line without falling in, had great fun wearing the waders and picking their way over the slippery stones. They didn’t catch a fish unfortunately but this did not spoil their day. They came back truly hooked by the fishing bug!

Blog: Links House at Royal Dornoch appoints leading sportsman as Country Sports Ambassador as it launches Bespoke Country Sports Experiences

Links House at Royal Dornoch has launched its exciting range of Bespoke Country Sports Experiences and appointed one of the Highland’s premier country sportsmen as its Country Sports Ambassador. Calum McRoberts, one of Scotland’s leading anglers and outdoorsmen, brings to the role a wealth of expertise in angling, shooting and stalking in the Highlands as well as a passion for – and breadth of experience in – walking, hiking, cycling and horse-riding.

Links House, the new boutique luxury hotel located overlooking the first tee of world renowned Royal Dornoch Golf Club, is set to offer guests a fantastic array of bespoke country sports experiences including: angling trips to many of the Highlands finest salmon rivers and trout lochs; shooting and stalking on some of the great Highland estates; as well as a wide range of walking, hiking, horse riding and cycling trips.

McRoberts will co-ordinate all aspects of Links House guest outings from thoughtful river and estate selection to ensuring guests have access to state-of-the art equipment and expert local guides, whatever the activity.

“Although many of our guests come to the Highlands for its world-class links golf, we wanted to introduce them to the amazing array of angling, shooting, stalking, walking, hiking and cycling opportunities that abound here,” said Todd Warnock, proprietor of Links House. “Our goal is to provide a truly bespoke country sports concierge service to our guests, giving them an extraordinary Highland experience that they might not normally achieve during a traditional golf-only holiday.”

Links House’s full range of country sports experiences includes fishing for Atlantic
Salmon, brown trout, rainbow trout and pike; guided grouse, pheasant, woodcock and snipe shooting; guided red, sika and roe deer stalking; guided horseback riding along the Dornoch Firth; and guided hill walking, hiking and mountain biking.

To mark the appointment of McRoberts and the launch of its extensive country sports offering, the luxury Highland hotel is inviting guests to attempt to become ‘Legends of Links House’. Inspired by bagging a MacNab – namely shooting a deer, a brace of grouse and landing a salmon on the same estate in a 24 hour period – made famous in John Buchan’s classic 1925 book, John MacNab, guests can become a Legend of Links House by playing 18 holes on Royal Dornoch Golf Club and catching an Atlantic salmon on fly rod in the space of 24 hours.

‘Legends’ will be immortalised on the Legends of Links House plaque on display in the hotel’s Sporting Bothy.
