We provide our guests with a truly exceptional Highland experience. We have put together a small but dedicated team to make your stay at Links House special from beginning to end. Meet the team who are responsible for delivering impeccable service at one of the most luxurious Scottish Highlands Hotels.
Phil Scott, General Manager
Phil joined the Links House team in February 2019. Born and raised in Aberdeen, Phil is delighted to be working at Links House after overseas roles in China, Mongolia and Singapore. Throughout his last 23 years in the hospitality sector, Phil has developed a skill set that has been invaluable in strengthening all aspects of Links House, particularly the culinary programme.
In 2020, Phil was awarded the National Rising Star Manager of the year at the Scottish Hotel Awards and under his stewardship Links House placed 6th in the UK for the Conde Nast Traveller, Reader’s Choice Award.
In his younger days, Phil played rugby, which inspired him to try Australian Rules Football (AFL), resulting in him being selected for Scotland’s national AFL Team! Nowadays, Phil is happier on two wheels or on the golf course.
James MacDonald, Executive Chef
With over 20 years’ experience, Chef James McDonald began his culinary career in his native Brisbane, Australia, honing skills in some of the city’s leading restaurants including Bruno's Tables by Bruno Loubet. Despite wanting to train as a chef since he was 8 years old, McDonald’s passion for the industry was instilled during these early Brisbane roles.
Following this, McDonald made an ambitious move to London at just 22 years old and held positions at the city’s most esteemed outposts including The Greenhouse, Richard Corrigan’s Lindsay House, and Gordon Ramsay’s La Noisette
More recently, James relocated to Dubai to undertake a creative Head Chef role at Cocoa Kitchen and Boutique Le Chocolat Café, a unique dining experience using cocoa in all dishes. Still to this day, James names cocoa nibs as an underrated food people should eat more of due to their health benefits and complimentary addition to both sweet and savoury dishes. Following this, James was promoted within the same group to Pots, Pans & Boards by Tom Aikens. After 3 years with the group, James headed to Dubai Festival City’s The Fish House where he was nominated as a Seafood Speciality Chef in the Pro Chef Middle East Awards 2019.
Chef McDonald joins the team at Links House and its new restaurant Mara as Executive Chef, where he will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the culinary team and menu development. He describes his cooking style as European in method but heavily influenced by local ingredients and provenance.
Duncan Walker, Food & Beverage Manager
A legitimate Highlander, Duncan has recently joined the team at Links House bringing with him 21 years in the hospitality and wine trade.
Having worked across Scotland for many years Duncan is delighted to have come home to the Highlands, where he intends to share his passion for all topics related to the culinary, whisky and vinous worlds he loves. Look out for his selection of American wines at Mara, the best in Scotland!
Alastair Kennedy, Operations Manager
Alastair joined the Links House team in August 2017. He has had an interesting and active life, having served in the military with the UK’s Gurkha Brigade and for the Singapore Government over a 30-year period. As our Highland Experiences Consultant, Alastair looks after all guest activities and excursions and assists Links House in promoting these unique offerings to the UK and international travel sector. He has a wealth of experience in outdoor pursuits, having been trained as an Experiential Learning Instructor with Outward Bound. He is also a Mountain Bike Leader and will be available to lead walks and off-road bike trips to local areas and beyond. Alastair is the son of Sir Ludovic Kennedy, former journalist, broadcaster and author. His mother was Moira Shearer, a famous ballerina best known for her lead role in The Red Shoes.
Kerry Morrison, Guest Relations Manager
Kerry Morrison joined the Links House Team in April 2019 as the Guest Relations Manager. A local to the area, Kerry grew up twenty minutes from Dornoch in a small Highlands village. As a result, Kerry’s passion for her heritage greatly influences her role in providing each guest with an authentic Scottish experience. Prior to joining the Links House team, Kerry studied Business and Tourism in Aberdeen which laid the foundation for her work in the hospitality sector. Upon completion of her degree, Kerry went on to further her experience in luxury travel and customer service through working with Skibo Castle and Castle Stuart Links. In her spare time, Kerry can be found travelling with her children in favourite spots such as Harris in the Outer Hebrides.
Beata Pett, Head Housekeeper
Beata came to Scotland in 2004, from her native Poland, joining the Kingsmills Hotel in Inverness, first as Housekeeper and was promoted to Head Housekeeper. She stayed at Kingsmills for 10 years and joined Links House in April 2014 as a Housekeeper. She has been awarded the Young Ambassador of the Year at the Highland and Islands Tourism Awards in 2008.
More recently her team won the regional award for Housekeeping at the 2020 Scottish Hotel Awards. A very well deserved accolade for our ladies.
