Dinner at The Courtroom
The Courtroom is a buzzing Café, Bar and Brasserie offering everything from coffee and yummy cakes to fresh, locally-sourced dishes and crafty ales
Truly extraordinary food, wine & music is another element of the experience of The Courthouse.
Welcome to our cosy, corner of Dornoch.
Designed by Thomas Brown and opened in 1849, The Courthouse has been a central hub of Dornoch since then and The Courtroom is no exception.
Launched in 2016 and with a refreshed concept in 2020, our comfy café & tearoom by day, is now enhancing its offering to being a bar & brasserie at night. Allowing friends, old & new, to enjoy more of what makes us special; The best of the highland larder, weekly live music, specially selected wines, craft beers & house-made cocktails.
Although the Jury are ‘out’, a sea of famous and infamous faces will still be ‘presiding’ over proceedings in The Courtroom. Our mural created by Sandy Noble depicts a ‘journal’ of the history and culture in Dornoch, past and present.
So, relax, unwind, enjoy the atmosphere and let our team look after you.

Our talented team of chefs use the best and freshest local produce to deliver a wide range of hearty meals and light snacks.
For those who are after a light snack, our ‘wee plate’ options are available with everything from a deliciously crisp Pork Belly served with Links black pudding to our delicious Duck Scotch egg served with Links House brown sauce and pea salad.
For those with a slightly bigger appetite our ‘Big Plate’ option has some equally yummy dishes to fill you up. Perhaps our popular Confit Duck leg with pork sausage and white bean casserole will do the trick or maybe our fresh grilled Sea Bream served with cockles and clams will be fitting.
The Courtroom is open 7 days a week serving breakfast, lunch & dinner along with coffee and cakes.
Our wide selection of wines kept in our wine store corner are carefully chosen from our suppliers to give you an ultimate array to choose from. Feel free to ask any one of our staff members for a recommendation.
In addition to our extensive wine list, we also hold fun and classy wine nights!
We also have a brand new and exotic Cocktail list on offer! With an eclectic mix of classic cocktails reinvented and Highland favoured tipples, from ‘Wild Cat’ named after the local Sutherland Clan crest animal to ‘Lady Justice’ named after the Courtroom’s historic use as a court of law. Pop down for a cheeky cocktail!
The Courtroom is always buzzing with music. Whether it is open mic night and you share your singing skills, songwriter sessions where you share some great lyrics, jam sessions where you bring your own instrument and just have fun or just come along and listen to one of our great visiting artists!
